About Salugen

20% of people have a genetic predisposition to excess cravings involved in the Top 3 Leading Causes of Preventable Death. Now there is something that can be done about it.

About Us

Salugen® Biosciences, Inc. is a biotechnology company that develops and markets proprietary laboratory tests, medical treatment protocols, and over-the-counter products to avoid, reduce, or eliminate substance dependence, such as narcotic or illicit drug abuse. Salugen’s proprietary technology helps patients avoid or eliminate substance abuse, helps insurers control costs, and provides tools clinicians need to improve treatment outcomes.*

Company Vision

It is fundamentally unfair that bad things happen to good people and their loved ones. If we can make good choices today that prevent bad things from happening tomorrow, then we have changed the future for the better.

Even though genetic factors contribute to 70% of addictions and substance abuse, genes are not evaluated as part of existing therapy for pain management, obesity or drug and alcohol addiction. Over 20% of the world’s population has a chemical imbalance that limits their natural ability to feel reward and pleasure due to their genes.(1) When someone has these gene variations, they have unnatural stress resulting in excess cravings and addictive behaviors to feel normal. (2) These excess cravings could be for something as simple as sugar and carbohydrates, or alcohol and drugs. These cravings are involved in the Top 3 Leading Causes of Preventable Death in the United States that account for over 33% of all preventable deaths. (3)

When someone has these gene-guided chemical imbalances and a physician prescribes a centrally acting pain medication, the patient is more susceptible to tolerance and dependence.

Our goal is to provide Physicians, Workers’ Compensation Clinics, Urgent Care Clinics Surgery Centers and Hospitals with a simple and efficient system to order our proprietary laboratory testing and employ our products to avoid, reduce or eliminate the illness and costs of the Top 3 Leading Causes of Preventable Death. Now because of the Salugen System...a physician can analyze 60 to 70 percent of the factors underlying narcotic abuse and dependence, insurers can contain spiraling costs, and patients can avoid or end the burden of substance dependence.

For those Craving Independence, Your Day Has Come.

Company History

Salugen Biosciences was founded to prevent bad things from happening to good people. Whether it’s a patient in pain seeking injury relief from a doctor, a doctor trying their best to help a patient, or an insurance adjuster trying to provide the most cost-effective treatment plan for an employee of an employer who is paying the bill, everyone loses when a treatment ends up doing more harm than good. Narcotic abuse – in the form of tolerance or dependence – is an extremely costly treatment failure. Salugen Researchers have studied the issue of substance abuse for decades and brought together the appropriate testing and treatment protocols to effectively deal with this rising epidemic of substance abuse – in the form of prescription pain killer addiction and other substance use disorders.

The Company’s Medical Division is based in the biotechnology hub of San Diego where the Company was founded. The Salugen Medical Group is based in southern California, with Affiliated Salugen Clinics across five states by the end of 2009. Salugen is proud to have been a graduate of the San Diego CONNECT Springboard Program, a member of the Morrison & Foerster Venture Network, and a presenter at the first Nutrition Capital Network. Salugen’s partner, Clinical Reference Laboratory, is based in Lenexa, Kansas.
